This application note discusses the
support of CAS LATENCY 2 modules and their test and identification through the
RAMCHECK program.
If the high speed CAS Latency 2 is supported on the module tested (as required, for example, for the AMD Athlon processors), the SPD byte 23 will equal A0h to indicate a 10nS cycle time (at CL=2), and byte 24 will equal 60h to indicate a 6nS (or =65h to indicate 6.5nS) access time from clock. However, we have found that byte 24 may be left at 0 by some manufacturers.
| NOTE: The RAMCHECK memory tester identifies read SPD information by displaying "SPD = xx" both as part of the test summary following the Basic Test and as part of the test log. Measured information is displayed in the format "TEST = xx". Please refer to our application note INN-8558-APN12: SPD DATA STANDARDS for further information on each SPD byte location. |
The program identifies modules
supporting the Athlon processor at CAS LATENCY 2. It will report the message
"SPD=100MHz at CL2" in the last summary screen as well as in the Test Log.
The
end of the BASIC TEST performs a 100MHz CAS LATENCY 2 test and reports a
message at the lower right corner of the display showing CL2 = 
if the module
under test passes this function. 
Corresponding messages are also
recorded in the Test Log.
