EDO/FPM ISSUES
- Q. What is
EDO/FPM?
A. The EDO (Extended Data Out) and FPM (Fast Page Mode)
DRAM memory technologies were the dominant DRAM technology in the early to mid
90s. They are also called Legacy DRAM or Standard DRAM technology. Unlike
modern SDRAM and DDR technologies which provide the data in accordance with the
system clock, the Legacy DRAM devices were asynchronously interfaced to the
computer, with data availability after a certain time delay (which is called
the access time and measured in the range of 40 to 120 nS).
- Q. Can RAMCHECK support
EDO/FPM modules?
A. Yes. RAMCHECK automatically supports Extended
Data Out (EDO), Fast Page Mode (FPM), and the old Nibble and Static mode
devices. RAMCHECK's optional SIMM Adapter tests
the legacy EDO/FPM SIMM modules with 70 and 32 pins.
- Q. What is the secondary
speed that RAMCHECK display while testing EDO/FPM devices?
A.
This is the cycle time, the amount of time from one memory access to the next.
For example, a speed reading of 45.5/90nS means that the access time is
45.5nS and the cycle time is 90nS.
